KINGSBRIDGE 7'6" VINTAGE BUS RUNNING DAY - 15 September 2012

NEWS – Vintage bus services will run from Totnes leaving Coronation Road at 08.30 and 09.30 arriving at Kingsbridge at 09.10 and 10.10 respectively.  An additional journey returning to Totnes will leave Kingsbridge at 17.00.  Programmes including full timetables of all services running are available now from Kingsbridge and Totnes Information Centres as well as from the organisers (see below).

After the great success of the first three Kingsbridge Running Days in 2008, 2009 and 2010, we are delighted to invite you to this fourth event in the South Hams.

The routes we plan to use are those formerly operated by the Great Western Railway Road Motors, the Western National Omnibus Company and other local operators such as Tally Ho!  Services to Beesands, East Portlemouth, South Poole, Slapton, Salcombe, Hope Cove, Thurlestone, Bantham, Loddiswell, California Cross and East Allington are being scheduled as for the last two years.  In 2010 we used mainly the routes operated at the 2008 event but with a greater variety of vehicles so that individual vehicles did fewer journeys.  However the passenger demand increased by over 50% and, at times, intending passengers were disappointed.  For 2011 we plan to introduce some new routes as well as increase the frequency on some of the more popular routes particularly to coastal destinations

Most vehicles in use will be limited to those with a width not exceeding 7’6” (apart from mirrors).  This is necessary because of the width of many of the roads in the area over which we are planning to operate.  Full width vehicles will be able to be used on the routes to Slapton, Salcombe, Bigbury and Modbury. However owners of other visiting vehicles are welcome to come to Kingsbridge and we expect to be able to organise additional parking by arrangement – please contact the organisers below if you wish to avail yourself of this.

The queue for the 1945 Bristol K heading for Slapton in 2010. With almost a full load there was still room to rescue stranded passengers from a broken down Trident on its way to Dartmouth.

To accompany this event there will be a fully illustrated colour programme and timetable which will be on sale on the day and available from the organisers in advance for £5.50 including p&p.  Availability will be announced on this website later in the summer.

If you are the owner of an historic 7’6” wide bus or coach, you are warmly invited to complete the entry form and send it to us as soon as possible to ensure inclusion in the event programme and for a duty to be allocated.  If you need more copies please photocopy or download further copies from our website as above.

Several vehicles which did not make it last year have already been promised so we look forward to your participation. Colin Billington is also intending to launch another newly restored vehicle and his Bristol H will also be in service.
