HOME SUPPORTERS ABOUT DONATIONS EVENTS SHOP VISITS WEDDING HIRE OUR COLLECTION CONTACT KINGSBRIDGE 7’6” VINTAGE BUS RUNNING DAY – 17 September 2022 Returning for our 15th year, the Kingsbridge Running Day on Saturday 17th September will operate a full network of passenger carrying services on authentic routes so enjoyed by enthusiasts, holidaymakers and locals over the years.
The Running Day will be centred on Kingsbridge Bus Station on the Quay (TQ7 1FD), operating services from 10.00 until 17.30. The bus station is at the heart of this vibrant market town with good public transport links from Plymouth and Totnes (for Exeter) and is a short drive south of the A38.
Features of the 2022 event include:
● Services to coast and country destinations including Slapton, Totnes, East Portlemouth, South Pool & Sherford, Goveton, Frogmore, Salcombe, Hope Cove, Soar, Thurlestone, Loddiswell (Station), Modbury, and Moreleigh ● Circular services such as Kingsbridge to Goveton via Buckland-tout-Saints and Kingsbridge to Blackawton back through Strete and along the coast. ● · A new service to coastal villages East of the Kingsbridge Estuary courtesy of the Coleridge Community Bus (and their newly acquired easy access minibus).
● Short workings by open-top bus to enjoy the estuary views on a circular to Churchstow. ● Coach tours to Blackpool Sands and services to Bigbury-on-Sea giving a break to enjoy the seaside. ● · Refreshments and an opportunity to enjoy the grounds at Loddiswell Station courtesy of the owners with proceeds going to South Hams District Explorer Scout Unit to assist with various young people’s activities, camps and expeditions (103).
A souvenir programme (52 pages in A5 format) accompanies the event detailing the vehicles in service, duties and timetables. In 2021 a focus was the diamond anniversary of the diminutive Bristol SU buses and coaches which Western National favoured for many years in the South Hams. In 2022 attention turns to the fleets operated by Kingsbridge’s Tally Ho and particularly those marques returning to the area for the vintage bus running day on 17 September. Articles in the programme have extensive period photographs from the surrounding area, inviting then and now comparisons. 2022 is also the 90th Anniversary of the Grand Opening of Victoria Coach Station – although 250 miles away the coaching activity connecting the South Hams over the decades is illustrated from the local perspective within the programme. Visitors can also purchase the new TV&GWOT book ‘VCS90 – A Celebration’ which has a section ‘Wheels to the West’ demonstrating the changing look of West Country departures from the capital over the years.
BUS & COACH ENTRIES
Bus and coach entries for the Kingsbridge running day are warmly invited. Main road services (for example to Salcombe and Totnes) can accommodate full width and double deck vehicles but narrow single-decks buses have scope to venture down rural roads to coast and country villages. Coaches can be deployed, appropriately, on Tours to the seaside. The entry form (Word or pdf formats) should be completed as soon as possible, please, and returned to kingsbridge@tvagwot.org.uk. The deadline for entries is 21st August 2022. Space in the town is limited so regrettably vehicles for static display cannot be accommodated.
