|DONATIONS & BEQUESTS|
TV&GWOT Trustees and Supporters work hard to preserve our transport heritage so the wider public can enjoy the experience of bygone travel and explore the historical insights and lessons for sustainable transport today. Of course, money is required to complement the time, energy and skills contributed by volunteers.
TV&GWOT receives no statutory or public sector funding so its principal income is from donations by private individuals who support its aims and objectives. There are many ways you can contribute to TV&GWOT as a charity some are surprisingly cost-effective.
TV&GWOT welcomes monetary donations of any size, as well as donations of items related to its objectives and collection policies. TV&GWOT would also be grateful to discuss, in confidence, potential legacies or bequests.
Monetary donations may be made today by sending a cheque to TV&GWOT at its registered office, Ledger Farm, Forest Green Road, Fifield, Maidenhead, Berks SL6 2NR using TV&GWOTs donation form (pdf form or Word) or by submitting the completed donation form to firstname.lastname@example.org and making the donation via Paypal to email@example.com.
The Trust is a listed PayPal Giving Fund charity so PayPal does not deduct a fee from your donation.
Regular donations can be made by PayPal using the button above or by standing order. A Donation Standing Order form can be obtained from TV&GWOT at its registered office or by email from firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are a UK tax payer TV&GWOT can also benefit from Gift Aid on your donation as explained on the UK Governments Direct Gov website as follows:
When an individual, sole trader or partnership gives money to a charity through Gift Aid, then you (i.e. the charity) can take their donation which is money theyve already paid tax on and reclaim basic rate tax from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) on its gross equivalent the amount before basic rate tax was deducted.
If a donor is a higher rate tax payer, they too can benefit from the tax relief as they can claim back the difference between the higher rates of tax at 40 or 50 per cent and the basic rate of tax at 20 per cent on the total value of their gross donation. By leaving a gift in your will to TV&GWOT, you can help preserve the transport heritage of the Great Western Road Motors and their successors who operated bus services across the Thames Valley and West Country areas, from Paddington to Penzance. Our leaflet provides a guide details are reproduced below.
As a registered charity neither TV&GWOT nor your beneficiaries need pay any inheritance tax on bequests from your estate.
Thank you for considering TV&GWOT as a beneficiary in your Will. Legacies whatever size and whether financial or material are received with gratitude and respect. They make a valued contribution and help preserve the collection for future generations.
Legacies can be a sum of money or the residue of your estate (once bequests to family and friends have been made and all other dues paid). Bequests might be your transport collection or specific items from it, or other things likes stocks and shares.
Legacies to TV&GWOTs general charitable purposes go to the education of the public in the transport heritage, through the preservation of the collection and mounting of events for people to enjoy. Legacies are not spent on administration. You can add a rider to guide TV&GWOTs Trustees/Directors expressing your preference for how the legacy is used. This will be respected as far as practicable but allowing discretion ensures a legacy cannot be invalidated due to unforeseen circumstances.
Setting your wishes down in a Will ensures your intentions will be met. It gives you peace of mind and is helpful to those eventually dealing with your estate. We recommend that you consult an expert when drawing up your Will but alternative forms of wording are suggested below for you to consider:
Legacy of cash
Legacy of residual estate
Bequest of Collection/Item(s)
Amending your Will by codicil
If you already
have a Will you can make a Codicil to include a new bequest to TV&GWOT
which should be witnessed by two people.
The above information can be downloaded in pdf format here.
If you have queries on any aspect of donations or bequests for the benefit of TV&GWOT, please do not hesitate to contact the Trustees for a confidential discussion without commitment. In the first instance please email: email@example.com
